A slice of my back story…
My practice spans drawing, painting, and textiles, often merging design principles with expressive, tactile mark-making. Years spent teaching art and design to children have reinforced my belief in creativity as a form of curiosity and connection — a way of understanding both the world and oneself.
Since childhood, I have been — and remain — an attentive observer of my surroundings and the people within them. This instinct to watch, to notice subtle gestures, shifts of light, and emotional undercurrents forms the foundation of my artistic practice. My work explores the quiet intersections between the external world and inner experience. Through drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture, I aim to capture fleeting moments often overlooked — fragments of time that reveal human vulnerability, resilience, and connection.
I began exhibiting from a young age.Travelling and living in different parts of the world have each informed my creative perspective, deepening my awareness of how people and place interact. Exhibiting work created in Scotland, Yorkshire, and the South of France helped me recognise both the contrasts and shared qualities that define these landscapes and their inhabitants.
Over time, I have moved beyond a nomadic existence of fitting in temporarily. Settling in Dartmoor has allowed me to form a profound connection with this untamed and rugged landscape and recently to find my own voice. While walking and running through it, I gather found materials that become integral to my process — embedded within my sculptures, drawings, and paintings. This deliberate way of working ensures that each piece is tied emotionally and physically to the place of its creation, reflecting both the landscape’s and my own state of being at that moment in time.
My practice now centres on exploring the link between inner emotion and visual form, and how this relates to our sense of place. Evolving through layers of colour and texture, my work seeks to reflect the complexity of perception, and to uncover the fragility, resilience, and story held within form. Through this process, I have discovered a way of seeing and creating that is uniquely my own — one that allows me to articulate what feels most vital: the quiet beauty and vulnerability of the world around us, and our deep, enduring connection to it.
